Mirror's Edge - Faith performing a wall run

Faith performing a wall run.

Overview[]

Parkour refers to the mode of transportation in which the aim is to get from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible. Runners determine their path of travel throughout the City of Glass and then, by combining various strings of movements and motions, as well as overcoming urban barriers posed by the city, attempt to reach their destination as fast and efficiently as possible, often taking alternate paths to avoid obstacles altogether. Motion flow and control are paramount to efficiently utilizing parkour; therefore, parkour is also referred to simply as "the art of moving efficiently".

Parkour is the main concept of Mirror's Edge and is used to get through the city and reach objectives. Unlike most parkour/free running games, you play as the protagonist Faith Connors in first person. In Mirror's Edge, runners use the art of parkour to transmit physical objects in bags and containers from one point to another.

Almost always throughout the game, the player is in a first-person point of view that makes the game seem more realistic, immersive, and has superior control. The whole game revolves around the use of parkour.

Trivia[]

  • Contrary to popular belief, the Mirror's Edge series does not feature freerunning, and only utilizes parkour. Freerunning is the descendant branch of parkour. By contrast, freerunning has a more playful, performance-oriented philosophy, in which flips and jumps can be a form of self-expression. The individual's desires and freedom are considered more important than the strict rules of parkour.
  • Oddly enough, parkour is often abbreviated as "PK", the common abbreviation of Pirandello Kruger.
